Hi reader,
i-PROGNOSIS is officially kicking-off the last major study of the project with a series of interventions that will monitor the health outcomes of new supportive interventions for about 60 persons living with Parkinson’s in Germany, Greece and the UK.
The iData study will be looking at novel approaches to sustain the quality of life of potential or early stage Parkinson’s patients. Epidemiological studies have proven that early intervention could have a positive effect and i-PROGNOSIS is in this context looking at the impact of serious games. In the long term, the aim is to complement the PD specialised physio-, occupational and speech therapy with e-health-supported therapies to empower people living with Parkinson’s.
The 14 games composing the Personalised Game Suite address various symptoms of the disease and can be performed at home or in special ‘Game Stations’ at the clinics. They will be tested over four months with patients living in Dresden, Thessaloniki and London. Three medical assessments taking place at the beginning, the middle and the end of the four-month period will allow to assess the acceptance and compliance of the e-health-supported interventions.
Studies to increase our understanding of early onset Parkinson’s and eating behaviour changes as the disease progresses are still ongoing. It is now also possible to donate your data from Chile: a big muchas gracias to our Chilean ambassador Dr. Pedro Chana for his support! Preliminary analysis reveals that higher clinical tremor scores, fewer number of mouthfuls during the meal and shorter meal durations could be important factors related to this difference.
